Alexa Monahan
Today's guest has lived here for more than 15 years. She spent much of her formative years building lifelong friendships within our community. Like many of us, the opportunity to get away from home in order to go to school in a different city offered Alexa the chance to see what other areas had to offer. She found out that the Okanagan is the place that she wanted to be.
Her goal is to show that business can be used as a force for good in the community.
In her words:
To be a socially responsible business that contributes to Vernon's growth and helps keep our downtown a vibrant shopping destination. To employ locals at a living wage and provide a fun, engaging, supportive place to work. To give back to various local charities that help those in Vernon who need it most.
A little background for Alexa Monahan: Her family owns and operates Nature's Fare Markets, and she has been actively involved in the business for over 10 years. Alexa graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UVic and now lives in Vernon where she is raising her two-year-old son. She is most passionate about doing business with integrity and about having a positive influence on our community and for our environment. Alexa is proud of the fact that Nature's Fare was the first retail company in all of Canada to obtain B Corp status, and about how they treat their employees. Alexa talks a great deal about her wish for more people to know what a B Corp business is.
In her downtime Alexa has passions that include yoga, Pilates, read, skiing, hiking, swimming, travel, and taking advantage of all the incredible activities the Okanagan has to offer.
