This past weekend I was fortunate enough to have been the host for four families in our beautiful location near a lake in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia Canada. We also coincidentally had a SUP (Stand Up Paddle) festival called the Kalamalka classic going on over the Labour Day Weekend. Now some of you may know I am an avid cyclist and I enjoy my training for triathlons with a great coach Luke with Balance Point Racing. I like consider myself healthy and fit to some degree and have in the past tried SUP and in fact I was successful at it when I first tried it six years ago while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. The reason that I'm writing this article today is because I signed up for this festival on Friday night of the Long weekend (the day that it started). The festival began on Friday and ran through till Sunday. The highlight of the festival was a 10 mile race ran from one end of the Kalamalka lake, to the other. I have never been on a SUP for longer than 15 or 20 minutes, but I signed up for the 10 miler, as well as some other smaller races to be done on the Saturday.

After signing up I had some reservations about the whole race. I thought I was going to be extremely sore and tired after the race. To my surprise I enjoyed the three hour paddle from one end of the lake the other and the only soreness that I got was from chafing from my hydration backpack on my shoulders. My arms were a little bit sore but not too bad, and  my lats were a little bit sore because I guess I haven't used those a lot lately. But all in all I was very happy to say that I had a very short recovery and I was able to get back into workouts right away. As a matter of fact directly after having some food for lunch, I went out for a one hour mountain bike ride!

So why am I saying this?

It is to tell you that my plant powered lifestyle has made it possible for me to be rather spontaneous and I choose to engage or take part in something that's available. Wouldn't you like to do the same? Well if I can do it I think that you can to all that you need to do is to follow a plant power lifestyle and you too can be happy healthy and fit so that you can take part in spontaneous race that comes your way!
