That is the question.

Recently I had a friend come to me to help them with moving off of WordPress, because they thought that it was not quite simple enough. This begs the question of why is it not simple? IS it that you do not like to do the online aspect of your business? Or is it that the processes that you have in place are not set up to streamline, and create the easiest flow of your energy to the points that matter to your business?

Here is an article that I like in reference to the question of whether or not to pick WIX over WordPress: http://awesomelytechie.com/5-reasons-dont-use-wix/

I would like to add a couple of caveats to that article, and here they are.

1. Does your need to have the most simple system of creating a site outweigh the need to have one that will give you results?

getu2thetopTo elaborate on that a little I must refer you to the post that I wrote on what you are building your site for, as well as the post on if you build it will they come?

In both of these articles, I relate that the outcome of the site is something that NEEDS to be figured out prior to building it. If you have a solid foundation of what you are building, then you can create the site that works toward that end. If your site is meant SOLELY as a billboard online then perhaps WIX may be for you. Once you get to beyond the billboard phase , and you want to have a site that is a reference site, and a commerce site, then you will quickly run out of reasons to stick with the builder option of WIX. Please just take the time to figure out what you are planning, and build towards that with something that is scalable, and can work for you in your end game.

2. Does your need to have things more simple really mean that this is not your area of expertise, and you should leverage someone else in your circle of influence to do this work for you?

I agree that everyone needs to take ownership over all aspects of their business, but it is becoming more an more clear to me that people that I work with do not want to do the things that are necessary to help their businesses online. I am not saying that these folks are lazy, not by a long shot, All that I am saying is that many of them are far beyond their comfort zone, and this is not their area of expertise. For this reason it would behoove them to learn and understand how it all works, so that they can then figure out how much they are willing to spend to get the same results they would if they invested their own time on doing the online work. Step one here is taking the time to understand what is involved. (There is a course here that you can get the tutorial material for this exact process:) Step two would then be analyzing what it would cost you in time to do all of this work? Are you willing to invest in that time? If not, how much money are you willing to pay someone else to do that work for you?

3. Is there a possible option to streamline your processes to make the whole system easy and fool proof so that you get what you want and the work on the site gets completed? This is the question that many people either knowingly or by default get to as a result of working in this area. Most of my clients get here through guidance and suggestions.
